If you’ve been to a Folk/Celtic festival in Victoria this year, chances are you’ve already heard the utterly sublime harmonies that define Charm of Finches. The Melbourne based sister duo, Mabel and Ivy Windred-Wornes, don’t simply make music – they craft it. With a folk flavour reminiscent of First Aid Kit, the girls use their gorgeous vocal blend to create a distinctive, dreamlike sound.
Their extraordinary debut album, Staring At The Starry Ceiling, is warm enough to melt a mid-winter frost. Complimenting the angelic vocals are a wide variety of instruments, including guitar, ukulele, cello, violin, glockenspiel, lyre, banjo and piano – all played by the sisters. Most incredibly, they’re only 14 and 17 years old! Having already supported acts such Kasey Chambers and Jordie Lane, who knows what the future holds?
To celebrate the first anniversary of their album, Charm of Finches are currently touring Australia and will be performing in Melbourne on the 28th of July. For more information on their tour, click here. This is definitely a band to watch!
