The Getaway

The-Getaway-640x640The latest Red Hot Chili Peppers’ record is attractive, fresh and peppered with their trademark bass-layered tones. In existence for a staggering 33 years, the band defies all critics by delivering an album which proves they can still surprise us.

It’s exciting to listen to such well-developed artistry; the collaboration with new producer Brian ‘Danger Mouse’ Burton assists the band in creating a mature new sound. The album features the addictive lead single ‘Dark Necessities’ and the smooth ‘Sick Love’ complimented with piano melodies by Sir Elton John.

Anthony Kiedis’ lyrics lack a little…ah…sophistication (“I want to thank you and spank you upon your silver skin/Robots don’t care where I’ve been”). Fortunately, Josh Klinghoffer’s exhilarating solos add the style required to pale this complaint into insignificance.

An absolutely brilliant record and a welcome ‘getaway’ from previous hormonal head bangers.
